MyMediaRoom was initially created for use by organizations. Recently, we've been caught up in the "personal media room" concept that centers around the individual. I want to re-focus on the organization and will be dedicating a series of posts over the coming weeks to it.

Specifically, I want to show how and why an organization needs a media room. These are just a few important points:

Keep your web site fresh with consistent news.

Blog about your organization to offer a candid view of what you do.

Offer basic tidbits about your organization using a fact sheet.

Publicize events more easily.

Display articles and awards to convey expertise.

One of the things we're working on at MyMediaRoom is improving the overall navigation system. Right now, users build their navigation by checking the boxes of items they want to appear. While simple and easy, we decided that it would be better to build in more control.

In our next roll-out, users will be able to re-title navigation and order them. The re-titling will also change the page titles of individual media room pages. This gives users some more flexibility in determining how their media room flows. For example, if a user wanted to post their resume on their media room, they could re-title "Fact Sheet" to "My Resume" and publish it.

This is going to happen very soon, so keep an eye out for a posting in the MyMediaRoom media room!

As a co-founder of MyMediaRoom, my activities generally revolve around the look and feel of things. From user interaction with the system to making it look "good," a lot of what I do relies on user input. With that said, if you're a user of MyMediaRoom (if you're not, sign up!), I welcome your comments either by email or right here on my blog.

MyMediaRoom is exactly what the name says it is. It's your media room - your place on the Internet where you can represent yourself in an organized and enlightened fashion. Even more, MyMediaRoom is a way for you to manage your personal media interests. The coolest feature that I think really defines this is the newswire. The newswire is simple in that it aggregates your selected RSS feeds, but it's also unique in that it categorizes them in an online newspaper-like format. My newswire is rather weak at this particular point in time, but check it out and watch as it grows in my own personal "newspaper": http://chris.mymediaroom.com/blogroll/.

Continuing with the newswire, most RSS readers out there are private... meaning that it's only visible to you and no one else. We wanted to take a different approach and enable our users to share their favorites with the world. Remember, it's your media room and the purpose of your media room is to express yourself. By letting others, whether friends or potential employers, make note of what you read... of what you consider to be your personal newspaper, you're letting them know what interests you. This shouldn't be something that's locked up for your eyes only. Additionally, I'm always interested in what people I know are reading. I can't see what interests them if it's not available to the public.
